Woody Head

Woody Head is a National Park close to the small fishing town of Iluka. This place was recommended by quite a few people. Here are a few photos and fun facts:

  • We saw whales breaching.
  • Ian earned his fire badge because he built the best fires!
  • We saw an Azure Kingfisher. They are so cool!
  • We visited the only litttoral Rainforest in NSW.
  • Ian shaved his beard that he grew in Sandon River.
  • It was the coldest we have been on our trip so far- 4 degrees. So glad there were firepits to keep us warm.
  • There were kangaroos at our campsite and they sat around our fire after we went to sleep.

Sandon River

We have been blown away by the beauty of the North Coast of NSW. Sandon River was truly amazing. It was the perfect spot for both of us. We could swim and fish each day as well as watch whales, dolphins and heaps of birds. And we met some incredible people including 2 water polo players from Long Beach- the world is small! Here are a few highlights and photos:

  • We celebrated Ian’s birthday with Wild Turkey and a yabbie pump.
  • Ian caught yabbie fever.
  • We spent almost 12 hours searching for the endangered coastal emu. So bummed we didn’t find them. I think we were trying too hard.
  • We saw the Beach Stone Curlew and there are only 8 living pair. I thought they were called Carl Lewis.
  • Ian made friends with a noisy pita.
  • We watched the migrating whales each day and saw heaps of breaching whales.
  • We saw dolphins each day too- they loved swimming in the river.
  • We saw heaps of kangaroos. The joeys were too big to go in the pouch so when they were frightened they would just stick their head back in. Too cute!
  • I went snorkeling in the river and swam with a sea turtle.
